About this plant

The inner bark of Quillaja saponaria contains QS-21, a triterpene glycoside that is one of the most potent immunological adjuvants known. The Mapuche people of Chile are the original users; Quillaja derives from their word küllay, meaning soap. QS-21 is now a key component in the shingles vaccine Shingrix and the malaria vaccine Mosquirix.
