About this plant

The seed of Myristica fragrans yields both nutmeg and mace, containing myristicin, a phenylpropanoid with psychoactive properties in high doses. Native solely to the Banda Islands in Indonesia, nutmeg sparked one of history's most extraordinary colonial exchanges: in 1667, the Dutch traded Manhattan to England in exchange for the nutmeg island of Run.
