About this plant

The glandular fruit hairs of Mallotus philippensis contain rottlerin, a phloroglucinol derivative with anthelmintic activity against intestinal parasites. In Ayurvedic medicine, kamala is classified as a krimighna, a worm-destroying herb, as described in the Charaka Samhita. The bright red fruit powder was also one of the oldest natural textile dyes in South and Southeast Asia.
