About this plant

The flower heads of Calendula officinalis contain faradiol esters, pentacyclic triterpene alcohols with potent anti-inflammatory activity comparable to indomethacin, and carotenoids responsible for the vivid orange colour. Traditionally used for wound healing, skin inflammation and minor burns. The EMA recognises calendula for traditional cutaneous use. The name derives from Latin calendae, as the plant was said to flower on the first day of every month.
