About this plant

The rhizome of Aspidium filix-mas contains filicin and flavaspidic acid, phloroglucinol derivatives with documented antiparasitic properties. One of the oldest medicinal plants in European pharmacy, recorded by Dioscorides and Theophrastus. King Louis XVI of France purchased a secret herbal remedy based on this fern for 18,000 livres. Listed in the European Pharmacopoeia since the 18th century.
