About this plant
All parts of Aconitum napellus contain aconitine, a norditerpenoid alkaloid that opens sodium channels causing fatal cardiac arrhythmia. As little as 2 mg can be lethal. The Scandinavian name Tyrihjelm means Tyr's helmet, connecting to the Norse god who sacrificed his hand to the wolf Fenrir. One of the most poisonous plants in Europe.
